The Write Release - Writing to heal from trauma

After a sad or traumatic incident, we often find it hard to find our way back. Life demands a faster return to everyday routines, than our hearts and minds are ready for. Sometimes, often, our trauma or the process of recovering from it involves a loss of choice and control, leaving us feeling powerless. At times, it is ‘simply’ by feeling our trauma is not big enough to be talked about, grieved.

Through The Write Release our aim is to provide you with an instrument for healing, a complement to traditional therapy, where through your own words you are given the ability to reclaim your power and your healing process.

The Write Release is a trauma-informed guided writing programme, based on the internationally established WYS methodology developed by a team of educators, linguists and writers. The course consists of a step by step programme, led by a certified guide, available to you for support and questions. During the programme you will be provided with thoroughly researched teaching materials, writing exercises and the opportunity for feedback and review.

The purpose is to provide you with the tools for you to write after trauma - whether you choose to write about your trauma is your own choice. What is important is that you have the tools to put your words and emotions in print. Additionally you are given a guided step by step methodology for writing, which you may choose to use repeatedly after the course has been completed. Most importantly, at the end of the programme, we hope to have strengthened your feeling of empowerment and choice, while at all times providing you with a safe space for your feelings.

Programme outline

Following the WYS 8 step methodology, we begin with introductory writing exercises, then explore the importance of self care and the impact on our bodies in keeping our stories. From there, we dive deeper into writing genres and topics, writing as an instrument in healing and finding words for what sometimes feels wordless.

Who This Is For

This course is suitable for everyone, there are no prerequisite requirements. Although the course is directed in a way to help you process from trauma, you need not have experience trauma or, even if you have, write about it, it is completely up to you. For some, this course may be of interest as a new perspective on creative writing, that is also fine. The ultimate goal is to bring you choice and empowerment.

If you have experienced some form of trauma, you are likely to find that The Write Release provides you with an outlet outside of therapy, to go through your feelings, release yourself from some heavy pain and reclaim your voice, your words and your power.

The course is offered in an online group setting, but there is no requirement to share what you have written with anyone else, that is completely up to you. We also offer a limited number of in-person workshops and indivdual coaching in person in the Greater London area, and globally online.
